Have you ever wanted to play the harp?

Picture
Working with pianist and new-harpist Martha Summa Chadwick
My greatest passion is sharing my love of the harp with others.

I believe in creating a relationship of trust that nurtures and encourages all of my students to reach their goals.  With fifteen years of experience, I have taught all ages, from beginners through advanced.  Whether you are learning the basics of notes and rhythm or progressing through challenging techniques, I will work with you to increase your musical and technical skills.

No matter what your musical goals may be:
Do you love classical music or folk melodies? Do you want to play for others or just for yourself? I am proud to see my students take the next step on their musical journeys.  I have worked with many different types of students: from singers who wish to accompany themselves to professional storytellers who use the harp for sound effects during a spoken tale.

Students are encouraged to discover themselves through the harp.

Already have a harp?
Don't fall into the trap of thinking, "I don't want to bother a teacher with the basics.  I'll work from a book or video for now until I've learned a bit more."  It is much better to start learning with a teacher right from the start, otherwise you might learn bad habits that will be harder to fix later on.  I love working with beginners and experiencing the joys of discovery along with them!

Want to learn the harp, but you don't live near a harp teacher?

It is always best to take lessons in person and I am happy to help you contact a harp teacher in your area.  But for those who don't live within a reasonable driving distance from a teacher,  I offer lessons via Skype.

A note to prospective adult beginners:
It is never too late to start learning how to play the harp - even if you've never taken a music lesson in your life!  The harp has such a beautiful sound and is such a joy to play, even the simplest song sounds fantastic.
As someone who began the harp well-past childhood, I understand the challenges as well as the great joys of learning an instrument as an adult.  I now feel privileged to help others discover the harp for themselves.

Lesson Policy
  • A weekly lesson appointment is reserved for each student.
  • It is very important for students to arrive on time for their scheduled lessons. Lessons are often scheduled back to back; therefore, I am unable to run into the next student’s lesson time.
  • Consistent attendance is vital to success. With this in mind, please attend all scheduled lessons.
  • Lessons are charged one month at a time.  Payment for lessons is due before the first lesson of the month.
  • If you must cancel a lesson, please inform me at least 24 hours in advance and either a make-up lesson will be arranged or credit will be given.  Make-up sessions are available only if the instructor's schedule allows for it.
  • If 24 hour notice is not given, the student forfeits the lesson and will be charged.  Please call or email to inform me of an upcoming absence.   No-shows will result in forfeiting your tuition for that day.
  • If I have to cancel a lesson, a make-up lesson will be scheduled or credit will be applied to your account.
  • All books and materials need to be brought to every lesson.
  • Parents are welcome to sit-in on any lessons.  Questions concerning student progress are always encouraged.
